Is a happy medium just a cheerful witch?

People call me feminist whenever I express sentiments that differentiate me from a doormat or a prostitute.
Rebecca West (1892 - 1983)

Religion

Religion
One of a series of six paintings that fit together-- Each painting represents one of the great disciplines through which we frame and understand our world. The others in the series are Music, Drama, Math and Science, Philosophy, and Literature.

Aware

Aware
The title comes from a National Geographic story: "The Japanese have a word, Aware, for the feelings that arise from the beauty of an ephemeral thing." Seemed appropriate for this painting that celebrates the love my mom and dad had, and my sense that they are together now, although they have left us.

Words That Speak to Me

  • "Be humble, for you are made of earth. Be noble, for you are made of stars." Serbian Proverb
  • On Making Art: In the past, the incorporeal and invisible God was never represented. But now that God has been manifested in the flesh and has dwelt among men, I represent the visible in God. I do not adore matter; I adore the creator of matter, who has become matter for my sake, who chose to dwell within matter and who, through matter, has caused my salvation” St. John Damacene(Discourse I,16).

Our Lady of the Holy Mountain

Our Lady of the Holy Mountain
In Isaiah, we're told we'll share in life on God's holy mountain, where "the wolf and the lamb will lie down." The possibility started with a simple but courageous "yes"--and so "a little child will lead them."

Wisdom from Jim Morrison

O great Creator of Being, grant us one more hour to perform our art and perfect our lives.
